How AI models work

AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and others work by predicting what text is most likely to come next based on patterns learned from large amounts of training data. While we provide tools that search the internet in real time, they do not learn. Instead, they generate responses word-by-word based on statistical patterns.

This means AI models can produce text that sounds authoritative and well-reasoned, even when the underlying information is wrong.

Why AI models make mistakes

There are several reasons an AI model might give you an incorrect or misleading response:

  • Hallucination. AI models sometimes generate plausible-sounding information that is entirely fabricated. This can include fake citations, invented statistics, or incorrect facts stated with confidence.
  • Outdated training data. Models are trained on data up to a certain point in time. They may not know about recent events, new research, or changes that happened after their training cutoff.
  • No real understanding. Despite how fluent they sound, AI models do not truly understand the world. They recognize and reproduce patterns in language, but they cannot verify whether what they are saying is true.
  • Eagerness to help. Models are designed to be helpful, which can lead them to provide an answer even when the honest response would be "I don't know."

These are not bugs that will simply be fixed in the next update. They are fundamental characteristics of how current AI technology works. Every major AI model, from every provider, has these limitations.

Tips for getting the most out of Brainstorms

  • Treat AI as a starting point. Use Brainstorms to explore ideas, draft content, or get a different perspective, then verify anything important yourself.
  • Be specific. The more context and detail you provide, the better the response is likely to be.
  • Cross-check claims. If an AI response includes a specific fact, statistic, or quote, verify it independently before relying on it.
  • Ask follow-up questions. If something seems off, ask the model to explain its reasoning or provide sources.

Our approach

We integrate with multiple AI providers so you can choose the model that works best for you. Whether you use new.space AI credits or your own API keys, we act as a transparent proxy: your prompts and responses are end-to-end encrypted within your Space, and we do not log or persist any AI content on our servers.

AI is a powerful tool for thinking, creating, collaborating, and brainstorming. Knowing its limitations helps you use it effectively.
